Home to the Pope and the heart of the Catholic faith, The Vatican is well worth a visit. Everything about the Vatican is big – the building, the Bernini designed columns and the queues for the Vatican Museum. The good news is that main part of the Vatican is free to go in and usually has minimal queues.
Insider Tip: Walk up to St. Peter’s Square from nearby Castel Sant’Angelo just before sunset. You’ll be treated to a burning Rome sunset behind the Vatican. Look out for the old guys playing chess and checkers around the side of the walls as you cross into St. Peter’s Square, their wives gossiping about them just out of earshot.
