About Ancient Rome & the Forums

The area of Rome that features the most famous sights of Ancient Rome is called the Centro Storico in modern Rome. It includes the Rome Forums, the Coliseum and the Campidoglio / Capitoline Hill. Other areas of Ancient Rome include areas further out from central Rome like the Appian Way, one of the most famous roads of Ancient Rome.

Entrance to the forums is free but you can also take low cost guided tours of the forums led by knowledgeable experts who give interesting insights into the way Romans used to live and work. Best times to visit – and take pictures – are early morning or just before dusk.
